Something amazing is happening over in South Korea
23 year old Min-Ji Park is having the season of her life on the Korean LPGA.
Min-ji picked up her fifth win of the 2021 season at the Korea Golf Association's DB Group Korea Women's Open at the beginning of June a major champ on the KLPGA. She then went on to miss a cut but bounced straight back with her 6th win of the season at the beginning of July.
Park has now won 6 of the 12 events she has played on the KLPGA Tour this year. She picked up her first win in April at the Nexen Saint Nine Masters 2021 and her second at the 2021 NH Investment & Securities Ladies Championship. Park's third win came a week after her second, at the Doosan Match Play Championship.
Her fourth win came at the Celltrion Queens Masters Open, after she sat out the Lotte Open to rest. Park is now looking to break Shin Ji-yai's season record of nine wins In a season.
Park spoke recently about the pressure she was starting to feel with the added attention on her game. “Honestly, the pressure is so high that I feel like I am about to cry,”. Since I am a professional golfer, I have to deal with the pressure. I am trying to be appreciative of the situation but at times it’s hard.”
Park the Australian Women’s Amateur Champion of 2016 has been at the top of the KLPGA for the last few years. She finished 3rd on tour last year with 1 win and 2nd in 2019 also with 1 win. So to have 6 already is some achievement!
The current standing on the KLPGA money list.
She leads the tour with scoring average on 69.45 as well as greens in regulation with 78.4%!
At the beginning of the year she was ranked world number 41. With her amazing season to date, she has jumped to 16th in the rankings and not far from the top 10 best players on the world!
On 29th July she goes again at the Jeju Samdasoo Masters to see if she can get closer to that record. I am looking forward to watch the event to see how she performs and it will be exciting to see her play in any majors next year!
The winning swing in action!
