Round 1 review of the British Open (my step count was high! couldn't get enough)
A stunning round by Ashleigh Buhai consisting of -7 which included 8 birdies and 1 bogey leads the Women's British Open by 1 shot. The South African will take a 1 shot lead over American Danielle Kang and Hinako Shibuno from Japan into round 2, Shibuno said afterwards she felt at home " i think its really similar to Japanese course, so i really relaxed and confident".
Defending champion Georgia Hall finished up on -3 with a round of no bogeys which will give her something to work on tomorrow. After her round Georgia said she fed off the crowds following her " I think i want to well for all those people watching me, so think it really helps when they cheer when i make a 3 or 4 footer, so it's really nice".
Ariya Jutanugarn won the British Open last time it was at Woburn and she is currently on -4 on shot behind sister Moriya.
There are a number of big names near the top of the leaderboard with world number 1 Jin Young Ko 3 shots back on -4 and world number 2 Sung Hyung Park at -5. Park got off to a flying start and was -5 through 10! However, a level par back 9 means she will be 2 behind heading into tomorrow.
Home favorite and course member Charley Hull is on -5 with a run of 3 birdies on holes 10-12. Hull described US Open champion Jeongeun Lee6 is also in the mix with an opening round of -4.
There were lots of fairways and greens hit out there today but putting was tough! I think who ever wins this week will probably have the best putting stats and Buhai showed that today with 26 putts.
I managed to walk 20km so i am exhausted but the golf has been great and the crowds were great especially with the home players. Bring on tomorrow! Nice to see a few people who follow Golfista come and say hi, If your here tomorrow come say hi.
